Ageing Skin

Facial movements and expressions, such as squinting or smiling, lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Each time you use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. And as skin ages, it loses its flexibility and is no longer able to spring back in place.

Age, smoking, sun worshipping and genetics all play a role in ageing. The first areas for wrinkles to appear would usually be the glabella (in between the eyebrows) and forehead lines. Wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet may then appear). Most patients will start noticing these lines in their early 30’s when the body’s natural collagen started to deteriorate. The first signs of wrinkling can be very easily treated with good skin care, superficial chemical peels and sometimes anti wrinkle injections.

As we get older there is fat pad descent in the mid-face. Patients will start to notice deeper nasolabial folds, sunken cheeks and possible jowling around the jaw line. These would be treated with soft tissue augmentation (fillers) and radiofrequency. Anti wrinkle injections in the lower face can also be used if appropriate

The neck will also suffer from ageing. Deep treatments are not possible on the neck because of a risk of scarring and failure to heal. However there are many treatments that improve the neck skin greatly such as Radiofrequency and Chemical Peels.

What do I do now?

The first thing is to book in for a Skin Consultation with our aesthetic therapist. She will talk you through the various procedures available, what will give you the best results and what downtime to expect. For example, anti wrinkle injections are a quick procedure and generally an immediate return to work is possible, fillers are similar (there is a small risk of bruising with both these procedures). We also offer Superificial chemical peels, LaseMd, RF Microneedling, Lipofirm Pro, Microneedling, Profhilo just to name a few. Our aesthetic therapist will advise accurately on downtime during your consultation.
